GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team gained another Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) victory Friday night in Grand Rapids as they took down Davenport, 25-23, 25-18, 26-24.
Gabby Staggs led the Warriors with 10 kills, four blocks and a .474 hitting percentage with
Autumn Stokes and
Karli Jones each dishing out 18 and 17 assists, respectively.
Taylor Kelso rounded out the Orange and Black leaders with a game high 17 digs.
Cassie Sarabia and
Paige Doellman added nine and eight kills, respectively.
The first set was a tradeoff of leaders, as both teams remained knotted up much of the set's first half. After utilizing four attack errors from their opponents, Tech was able to jump ahead 15-11 and eventually cap on their strong offensive play for the 25-23 victory. A 6-0 run early in set two gave the Orange and Black a strong advantage that carried them through to a 2-0 match advantage heading into set three. The Panthers threatened to make some noise after they gained a 14-10 lead and managed to keep one step ahead of the Warriors with set point at 24-21. The Warriors cut down the comeback hopes and won the next five straight points for a 26-24 decision and got the sweep.
Tech (22-8, 8-4 WHAC) concludes their weekend road trip with a Saturday afternoon match-up with Concordia (Mich.) at Concordia Gymnasium with first serve set for 1 p.m.
