FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey ACHA Division 1 team defeated Oakland, 7-5, on Friday evening at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in their Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) opener.
"I think we struggled to find our flow tonight, but good teams find a way to win," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "I was glad to see our special teams clicking tonight."
After being knotted at four-all through 40 minutes of action, the Warriors would take advantage of three penalties by the Golden Grizzlies, converting on all three of them, to outscore the visitors 3-1 in the final period.
Jarrett Pfeiffer scored the game-winner power play goal at 18:04 while
Dylan Grant made it a 6-4 game at 15:49.
A penalty on
Nick Papandrea would give the Golden Grizzlies the opportunity to go on a 6-4 power play, but a double-minor on Ryan Rotondi would end that advantage and a
Nick Denice empty-netter goal would ice the game for the Orange and Black.
Joe Molfetta and Papandrea would lead the Warriors with two goals each while
Dominick Manochio had a team-high three assists.
Chet Tooker made 26 saves to pick up his second win of the season.
Tech (6-1-0, 1-0-0 GLCHL) returns to the ice on Saturday for a rematch with the Golden Grizzlies. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
