FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team utilized extra time to come out on top against #25 Madonna on Wednesday night in a 3-2 overtime decision at Warrior Athletic Field.
An early scoring affair turned the first half into an eventful 45 minutes of action with Amadou Cisse leading things off for Madonna in the third minute with the goal to grant the visitors the 1-0 advantage. The Warriors were fast to strike back, just a few minutes later, as
Ruben Leonardo sent his fifth goal of the season in off the
Andrew Higgins and
Leo Gill assists to even things up at 1-1. Higgins remained a factor for Tech in the first half, assisting the Orange and Black with their second goal of the night off the header by
Roman Schindler in the 19
th minute to provide the 2-1 lead at the half.
A mostly quiet second half gave way to the Crusaders tying things at 2-2 with Kazuya Odawara goal off the Cisse assist in the 76
th minute. Ninety minutes would not be enough to decide the outcome of the contest, as overtime was secured behind a 2-2 lock. Just a little over six minutes is all it would take, as
Brennan Cochran took the assist off
Ethan Payne's header in the 97
th minute for the header off the corner kick to give the Warrior the 3-2 overtime victory. Higgins would be credited with the secondary assist off the corner kick.
Schindler finished the night with four shots on goal against Madonna keeper Marcel Schmid. Tech goalkeeper
Adam Viviano concluded his night with three saves in the full duration of the contest.
Tech (13-2-2, 7-2-1 WHAC) will be back in action this Saturday as they host #4 Davenport at Warrior Athletic Field for their final regular season match-up slated to begin at 3 p.m.
