FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team opened their season in dominating fashion on Friday afternoon at the Hutzell Athletic Center, crushing Wright State – Lake, 115-39, at the Northern Lakes Insurance Tournament.
Haley Cook led all scorers with 32 points on 12-15 shooting, including 7-7 from behind the three-point line, and picked up four steals and dished out three assists.
Taylor Seiss added 13 points while
Mikaela Lyons and DeAnn Kaufmann rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Lyons,
Sarah White and
Keanna Gary would all pull down six rebounds apiece.
Tech opened the game with a 10-0 run in the first two and a half minutes of the game with Seiss scoring eight of those points. The Warriors would increase their lead to 20-4 with five minutes to go in the first quarter thanks to back-to-back three-pointers from Cook and two consecutive layups from
Kendall Knapke before leading the Lakers 34-10 at the break.
The Orange and Black would continue to dominate throughout the second quarter as they limited Wright State – Lake to just five points in the period before riding out the rest of the game on cruise control for their season-opening win.
Tech (1-0) returns to action on Saturday afternoon and will face off against either Cincinnati Christian or Saint Francis at 6 p.m. from the Hutzell Athletic Center.
