Warriors Fall in Five-Set Thriller to Crusaders

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team fell short of the comeback attempt in their final road game of the regular season against #18 Madonna, falling, 18-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 13-15.

Cassie Sarabia led with a game-high 21 kills, hit .313 and added 16 digs to conclude her afternoon. Gabby Staggs and Paige Doellman added 11 and 10 kills, respectively, with the former hitting a team-high .417. Karli Jones dished out 34 assists, with Autumn Stokes following with 23 of her own. Taylor Kelso rounded out Tech leaders with 29 digs in the contest.

Madonna opened the first set showing quick dominance to put the Warriors in a hole early on. Despite making a couple comeback attempts to quite the Crusaders, Tech was stopped short as they fell 25-18. A second set would present a more even playing field between the two opponents until Madonna found the fuel necessary to just overcome the Orange and Black despite them making some noise late off multiple kills from Sarabia and Doellman.

Up against the potential 3-0 sweep, the Warriors found themselves trailing 11-4 early before an 11-1 run and a 5-point spurt gave Tech a 25-22 set win and keeping the visitors hopes alive heading into the fourth set. The comeback was far from done for the Orange and Black though. Down 2-1 the two teams fought to gain a lead in set four. A string of attack errors from the Crusaders would help push Tech ahead before finding their rhythm and settling into a 16-11 lead. A kill from Sarabia helped cap a 25-17 set and even things at 2-2.

In the decisive set, each team took a share of the lead until Madonna strung together a set of points to eventually jump ahead 12-10. While the Warriors still kept within two points, the short set fell in favor of the home team as Madonna went on to take the final set 15-13.

Tech (24-9, 10-5 WHAC) will play their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, November 2 as they host Northwestern Ohio at the Schaefer Center in a 7 p.m. showdown.
