Warriors Close Out Regular Season with Sweep of Racers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team concluded its regular season in style with a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) over University of Northwestern Ohio on Senior Night Wednesday evening at the Schafer Center

The Warriors would honor their five seniors, Jazmin Alexander, Briyanna Axtell, Paige Doellman, Taylor Kelso and Cassie Sarabia, in a pregame ceremony.

Gabby Staggs would lead the way with a game-high 12 kills and four blocks while hitting .625 on the night. Paige Doellman and Cassie Sarabia added nine and eight kills, respectively. Taylor Kelso would continue her stellar play with 14 digs while Autumn Stokes notched 21 assists.

The Warriors would control play in the first set, leading from 4-2 on, but the Racers would hang around and not it make it easy on the Orange and Black as they brought it to within two points at 18-16. Tech though, would take the next five points, with Doellman and Staggs combining for three kills and a pair of errors from the Racers give the hosts a 23-16 lead and then go on to win the set 25-19.

UNOH would jump all over the Warriors in set two, using a 6-0 run to start the set and eventually going up 10-4. A small 4-0 Tech run though, and the Warriors would cut the deficit to two points at 11-9 before tying it up at 14-all. The two teams would trade off over the next few points, but the hosts would eventually make it 23-19 after another 4-0 spurt and go up 2-0 in the match with the 25-19 set win.

Trailing 19-14 in the third, Tech would rattle off four straight points, with Staggs having in a hand in all of those (two kills, two blocks) to make it a 19-18 game and cause Northwestern Ohio to call a timeout, but the Racers would respond with a 3-1 spurt and make the Warriors use a timeout of their own.

Four points later and the two teams would find themselves knotted up at 23-all, but a kill from Alexander put the Warriors at match point and they would take the match in the next serve after an attack error from the Racers.

Tech (25-9, 11-5 WHAC) returns to action next Wednesday when they host a to-be-determined opponent in a WHAC Quarterfinal matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
