Warriors Drop Final Two Games of MMC Meltdown

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Indiana Tech softball teams dropped its final two games on Sunday against Martin Methodist College (MMC) at the MMC Meltdown. Tech fell 12-0 in five innings in game one before losing 9-2 in the final games of the weekend.
 
The Redhawks jumped all over the Warriors in the first game of the twin bill, scoring 11 runs in the third inning off of eight hits and taking advantage of three Tech errors.
 
The Orange and Black would threaten in the top half of the fifth inning after a Caitlyn Walker single advanced Cortney Bingham to third with two outs, but Jamie Klips grounded into a 6-4 fielder's choice to end the game.
 
The Warriors started the second game by taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second thanks to a home run to right-center field by Jenevie Rivas. The Redhawks would tie the game at one in the bottom half of the inning, but Amber Terlaje was able to strand two runners thanks to a pair of ground balls and escape further damage.
 
Tech would retake the lead in the fifth inning after Bingham singled to right to plate Selena Schulteis, who reached on a double to start the inning.
 
The hosts would jump all over reliever Tori Simper in the bottom half of the six however, scoring eight runs on eight hits to take a 9-2 lead heading into the final inning. Rivas started off the inning with a double to left and Sechulteis drew a walk to get the Warriors in business with two on and nobody out.
 
Simper would then reach on a fielder's choice as the Redhawks got the first out at third. After loading the bases two batters later, Tech grounded into a 1-2-3 double play to end the game.
 
Tech (1-3) returns to action on March 5-6 when they travel to Barbourville, Kentucky for four games with Union College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on both days.
