Warriors Down Golden Eagles in Road Finale

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team bounced back from a tough loss on Saturday to defeat Cornerstone in their road finale, 74-52, at Mol Arena on Wednesday evening. With the win, as well as Madonna's victory against Siena Heights tonight, the Warriors are in position to finish as the third in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) with a win against the Crusaders on Senior Day Saturday.

Haley Cook led the Orange and Black with 26 points, tying her career-high, on 6-of-14 scoring and 5-of-8 from the three-point line while also grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She added two steals and two assists as well. Taylor Carver also had a double-double, her second of the year with 18 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Baylee Rinehart chipped in 12 points off the bench while Rayana Villalpando had a team-high seven assists and pulled down five rebounds.

The Warriors played stingy defense all game long against the Golden Eagles, limiting the hosts to shooting just 29.0% from the floor and 27.8% from the three-point line.

Cornerstone jumped ahead 6-0 in the first two minutes of the game but the Orange and Black stormed back with a 12-2 run to go ahead with 3:28 left in the quarter. Cook would open the second period with a four-point play and her rebound on the next possession started a fast-break that put Tech up 22-13 at the 8:36 mark.

The two teams would each score 12 points each over the rest of the quarter as the visitors went into the locker room up 34-26.

Taylor Seiss opened the second half with five straight points to extend the Warriors lead to 13 points at the 7:59 mark of the third period and Tech began to pull away from the Golden Eagles as they shot 54.6% in the second half. Cook would then hit back-to-back triples late in the quarter to push the advantage to 56-39 with 10 minutes left to play.

A 13-6 spurt to open the fourth gave the Warriors a 24-point lead and would push it to as many as 25 as they avenged their earlier loss this season to the Golden Eagles.

Tech (19-10, 15-6 WHAC) concludes its regular season on Saturday with third-place in the conference on the line, as well as Senior Day, as they take one of the hottest teams in the country in Madonna. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center and links to live stats and video will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
