GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Indiana Tech baseball team split with Georgetown College on Saturday afternoon at Robert N. Wilson Field, falling late in game one, 3-2, before scoring in the top of the seventh in game two to win 9-8.
Jared Harvey continued his impressive start by pitching seven shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out four Tigers.
Charlie Sipe went 2-for-3 with a walk while scoring a run.
Mark Carpenter also went 2-for-3 while recording a stolen base.
The Warriors struck first in the fourth when
Peyton Newsome singled home Sipe and tacked on another run in the sixth after
Tighe Koehring singled in
Brian Hakes.
Things went academic for the next two innings before the hosts scored three runs in the bottom half of the eighth to hand Tech its first loss of the season.
The nightcap featured an offensive explosion by both teams as they combined for 17 runs and 21 hits.
Brian Hakes went 2-for-4 with a walk and a double and drove in three runs.
Kyle Mead drew two walks while going 1-for-3, while
Glen McClain recorded a double.
Zach Sailors picked up the win in relief for the Warriors.
After Georgetown picked up a run in the second inning, Tech responded in the top of the third with four runs. Hakes doubled home Benny Clark III and
Zach Fyfe to get the Orange and Black on the board before
Peyton Newsom and McClain drove in runs three and four.
The Tigers answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and then continued the attack in the fourth with three more runs to go up 7-4.
Coach
Kip McWilliams' squad knocked in four runs in the sixth to take a late lead, but Georgetown would tie it in the bottom of the inning to set up a thrilling finish.
A single from Carpenter would get things rolling as he proceeded to steal second. After back-to-back walks got the bases loaded, pinch-hitter
Jagen Millspaugh drew the game-winning walk to drive in Carpenter and salvage the split.
Tech (5-1) returns to Robert N. Wilson on Sunday as they conclude their weekend with another doubleheader against the Tigers. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
