Warriors Fall to Panthers in WHAC Semifinals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The fourth-seeded Indiana Tech women's basketball team fell to eight-ranked and top-seeded Davenport in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament semifinals, 82-76 on Saturday afternoon at the DU Student Center.

Senior Taylor Carver led the Warriors with a team-high 18 points, while sophomore Haley Cook added 17 points, four rebounds and three assists. Junior Sarah White chipped in 10 points off the bench and freshman Kendall Knapke and junior Taylor Seiss added nine points each. Seiss dished out three assists and picked up a pair of steals while Knapke grabbed five boards and picked up three steals.

The Warriors jumped all over the regular season WHAC champions in the first half, using a 7-0 run to go up 18-10 with 3:15 left in the first quarter and held a 24-16 advantage at the end of the first period, benefiting from hitting 10 of their 11 attempts from the free throw line.

Tech would continue to hold the lead over the Panthers into the second period, going up by as many as nine points, but the hosts would end the half on a 9-4 run to head into the locker room up 40-39.

A quick 4-0 run by Carver to open the third quarter put the Orange and Black back up 43-40 with just under two and a half minutes gone in the second half, but Davenport would respond with an 8-0 run to retake the lead at 48-43 with 5:34 left in the third.

The Panthers would get up by as many as points but the Warriors wouldn't let them get out by any more as they closed the period on a 7-4 spurt to trail 60-59 with 10 minutes left to play.

Cook and Carver combined for the next eight Tech points as Jessie Biggs' team went up 67-64 with 6:47 to play in the game. A four minute and 10 second scoring drought though, along with a 9-0 run by the Panthers, and the Orange and Black found themselves trailing by four in the final three minutes.
'
Carver broke the scoreless drought at the 2:06 mark, but Davenport would score seven of the next 10 points to hold off the Warriors and advance to the WHAC Tournament Finals.

Tech (21-11) will now have to wait until the NAIA Division 2 Women's Basketball Tournament Selection Show on March 2 at 6 p.m. EST, which will be broadcast live on the NAIA Network, provided by Stretch Internet, to see if they will get an at-large bid to the National Tournament.
