AVE MARIE, Fla. – The Indiana Tech baseball team kicked off its Spring Break trip with a doubleheader sweep of Ave Maria University on Sunday afternoon at Bowie's Ballpark. Tech powered to an 11-4 win in game one before winning 15-6 in the second game.
Game one
Tech scored seven runs in the first with
Peyton Newsom and
Mark Carpenter hitting three and two-run homers, respectively. Newsom would add another two-run blast in the sixth finish the game with five RBIs.
James McReynolds earned his second victory of the season, pitching five innings and striking out seven batters while allowing four runs, only one of which was earned.
Game two
Charlie Sipes,
Brian Hakes and Carpenter all recorded three hits while Hakes and Carpenter drove in four and three runs each, respectively.
Tighe Koehring went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Tyler Wells picked up the win after pitching 4.1 innings and allowing two runs while striking out three.
The Warriors jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top half of the first inning with Carpenter clearing the bases with a triple and Hakes hitting a two-run homer. The Orange and Black would score two more runs in the second and third innings to increase their lead to 10-0.
The Gyrenes would score six runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 12-6, but the Warriors would come right back with homers from
Zach Fyfe and Hakes to win 15-6.
Tech (11-2) concludes its series with Ave Marie on Monday with a 2:30 p.m. start at Bowie's Ballpark. Live stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
