Tech Splits with with Spartans, Cougars in NTC Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Indiana Tech softball continued their Spring Break Trip with a pair of tight games in the NTC Spring Games on Tuesday at Legends Way Ballpark, defeating Missouri Baptist, 7-5, before falling to crosstown rival Saint Francis, 2-1.

Amber Frye went 3-3 with three RBI's, a double and a home run against the Spartans while Cortney Bingham drove in a run as well. Alli Watson went 1-3 with a double and Amber Terlaje went the distance to pick up her first win of the season.

Frye did damage in each of her at-bats, giving the Warriors the lead in the top of the first with a two-bagger to score Caitlyn Walker before singling in Walter again in the second to make it 4-0 Tech. She would make it 6-0 in the sixth by smashing one over the fence for her second homer of the year.

Missouri Baptist would make a furious comeback in the seventh however, scoring four runs on five hits and taking advantage of a Warrior error, but Terlaje was able to induce a double play with runners on first and second to end the game.

Tech's offense was unable to get going against the Cougars, producing just five hits as Katy Guebard struck out four batters while going the distance. Walter and Foltz each had two hits, with the former getting a double.

Watson was the hard-luck loser, pitching four innings in relief and allowing just five hits and one earned run.

After the Warriors took a 1-0 in the top of the third, Saint Francis would strike quickly in the bottom of the frame, as Lizzie Meyer singled and stole second before being driven two batters later. The Orange and Black were close to escaping with just one run being scored, but an error by Watson allowed to Jordie Close to score the game-winning run.

Tech (7-9) continues action at the NTC Spring Games on Wednesday with Saint Ambrose at 3 p.m. and facing off with Missouri Baptist again at 5 p.m. before taking on Saint Francis again at 7 p.m.
