McReynolds Throws No-Hitter as Warriors Sweep Cougars

EMERSON, Ga. – The Indiana Tech baseball team picked up a pair of victories on Saturday to finish their Spring Break trip as they swept crosstown rival Saint Francis in a neutral site matchup, winning 6-0 in game one as James McReynolds threw a no-hitter before the Warriors took game two from the Cougars, 9-5.

McReynolds went nine strong innings for the Orange and Black in game one as he held the Cougars hitless while striking out seven and allowing a pair of walks. Glen McClain and Keith Tatum each had two RBI's, with the former working two walks and the latter going 3-4 with a double.

McClain did his damage in the third as he drove in Charlie Sipe and Tighe Koehring to give McReynolds all the offense he would need with a 2-0 lead. Tech would add four more insurance runs in the top of the ninth as Peyton Newsom hit a sacrifice fly, Tatum doubled home a pair of runs and Carpenter also had a sacrifice fly.

McReynolds was perfect through 6.2 innings before issuing a walk to USF, but preserved the no hitter by inducing a ground out in the next at-bat. He got two ground balls through the first two batters of the ninth before issuing another walk but quickly regrouped to get a ground ball hit to short for the final out.

Game two saw the Warriors push across three runs in the first thanks to a pair of wild pitches and an error before scoring a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth to hold off the Cougars for the sweep.

Kyle Mead went 2-3 with a walk and two RBI's while Peyton Newsom also drove in two runs and Mark Carpenter went 1-3 with a double. Tyler Wells pitched four innings of two-run ball and struck out four batters to get the win in the seven-inning affair.

Tech (15-3) opens up Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play on Wednesday as they welcome Northwestern Ohio to Warrior Stadium for their home opener. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and links to live stats and video will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
