Warriors Power Past Mustangs in Friday Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team pushed its winning streak to six games on Friday as they opened their weekend series with Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Marygrove with a sweep, winning 16-4 in seven innings in game one and picking up a 12-5 victory in the nightcap.

Tech pounded out 26 hits in 12 innings while limiting the Mustangs to just 12 hits in the two games. Brian Hakes homered in each game while Mark Carpenter and Charlie Sipe each added round-trippers of their own. Tighe Koehring went 3-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI in game one while Hakes went 3-4 with three RBI's and a run in the second contest. James McReynolds was perfect through one innings in game one, one week after throwing a no-hitter against Saint Francis, as he improved to 4-0 on the season with a line of 4.2 innings, four hits, 2 runs (both earned), one walk and three strikeouts. Tyler Wells picked up his fifth win of the year in the second game, keeping the Mustangs off the board in his five innings of work while allowing just one hit and striking out three.

The Warriors would jump all over the Mustangs in the first inning, scoring seven times on four hits and taking advantage of two errors while sending 11 batters to the plate. The Orange and Black would nearly bat around again in the third as they sent nine batters up while scoring four runs on five hits. Hakes would smash his third homer of the year as he took Marygrove starter Nick Anderson deep to left field after Charlie Sipe worked a two-out walk.

The Mustangs would try to stave off getting runned-ruled as they homered on their first at-bat in the seventh, but Jacob Foster quickly regrouped to get the final three outs to give the Warriors the 16-4 win.

It was déjà vu in the second game as the Warriors had nine batters step to the plate in the bottom of the first to score six times on five hits and one Marygrove error. Hakes drove in Kyle Mead and Sipe with a single up the middle while Branson Dossen drove in Glen McClain and Peyton Newsom four batters later to make it 5-0.

Sipe and Hakes would then go back-to-back in the second as each smashed towering home runs to right and left field, respectively to make it an 8-0 contest as they cruised to the 12-5 win and the Friday sweep.

Tech (19-3, 4-0 WHAC) concludes their weekend set with Marygrove on Saturday with another doubleheader. Action is slated to start at 1 p.m. from Warrior Stadium. Links to live video and stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
