Warriors Split with Cavaliers, Vikings over Easter Weekend

MARSHALL, Mo. – The No. 3 Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team went 1-1 over Easter Weekend at Missouri Valley, winning 16-8 over No. 9 Saint Gregory's before falling to the No. 4 Vikings, 13-12, on Easter Sunday.
 
Brandon Gates scored four goals against the Cavaliers while picking up three ground balls. Jace Childs recorded a hat trick and also dished out three assists and picked up 11 ground balls. Noah Puckett, Carlos Matta, Mitchell Wilkins and Brian Nichter each scored two goals apiece. Aidan Jarmus went 8-25 on faceoff opportunities while Joseph Dosen made 23 saves to pick up the win.
 
The two teams traded goals in the first period before the Warrior scored three unanswered to take a 5-3 lead after 15 minutes of action. The Orange and Black would then dominate the second quarter as they outscored Saint Gregory's 4-1 to take a 9-4 lead into the locker room. Tech would continue to put the pressure on the Cavaliers in the second half, outscoring them 7-4 over the final 30 minutes to win 16-8.
 
On Easter Sunday against the host Vikings, the Warriors would find themselves trailing 4-0 before Gates scored with 29 seconds left in the first quarter to cut the deficit to three. Tech would then outscore the Vikings 7-3 in the second period, with Childs scoring three of them and as the Orange and Black held an 8-7 lead at halftime.
 
Tech would score three more times in the third period, but only once in the fourth as Missouri Valley tightened its defense and scored six times in the final 30 minutes to play to hold on for a 13-12 win.
 
Tech (3-3) returns to action this weekend with the UMLC/CCLA (Upper Midwest Lacrosse Conference/Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association) Challenge in South Barrington, Illinois, where they will take on No. 8 Saint John's (Minn.), No. 4 North Dakota State and No. 3 St. Thomas (Minn.) at South Barrington District Park. The Warriors will take on the Saint John's first on Friday at 2 p.m.
