BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Indiana Tech softball team dropped its opening weekend games against Union on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-4 in game one and losing 5-4 in the nightcap.
The Warriors fell behind early in game one as Union pushed across a run in the bottom of the first, but a Bulldogs error in the top of the second allowed
Jenevie Rivas to tie the game at one.
The hosts would get a run back in the third before scoring four in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-1 lead.
The Orange and Black would not lay down though, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh as they attempted a comeback. After a walk to Selena Schultesis to start the inning,
Cortney Bingham singled through the left side while
Alli Watson got hit in next to load the bases.
Cassandra Mendoza would clear the bases with a triple two batters later to cut the deficit to three, but was thrown out trying to score after a walk to
Hannah Foltz two batters later to end the game.
Jamie Kilps pitched four innings for Tech, allowing six runs, four earned, on 10 hits while walking one.
Amber Terlaje went the last two innings, allowing just one run on one hit while recording a strikeout.
The Bulldogs would strike again quickly in the second game, scoring once in the first before Jennifer Bazlyak smashed a two-run homer in the second to make it 3-0.
After tacking on another run in the fourth, Tech would rattle off four straight hits, including a grand slam by Amber Fyre, to tie it up at four.
The Bulldogs would load the bases in the bottom of the seventh though, and win the game after Randi Bass drew a walk from Terlaje to push the fifth run for the hosts across the plate.
Tech (1-7) finishes out weekend play on Sunday with a doubleheader against the Bulldogs. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. from Union Field.
