Warriors Sweep Bulldogs to Earn Series Split

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Indiana Tech softball bounded back to earn a series split with Union on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep, winning 4-3 in game one before taking down the Bulldogs, 8-0, in six innings in the nightcap.

The Warriors offense came alive late in the first game by scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings and held off late rally by the hosts to win their first game of the weekend. A Tori Simper double would get things started in the sixth to set up a second-and-third situation with one out. Amber Frye would get an RBI one batter later as she drove in Cassandra Mendoza with a groundout to short.

Jenevie Rivas would plate Simper in the next at-bat with a single up the middle to make it 2-0. Simiper would add two more runs in the seventh with a single to score Alli Watson and Caitlyn Walker.

Watson would then come in to pitch the bottom of the inning and escaped a bases-loaded jam and held off the Bulldogs for the 4-3 win.

Tech's bats continued to go to work in the second game with a four-run second inning as they took advantage of two Union errors to take the early lead. That would be more than enough for Maggie McCrory and Rivas, who combined for a three-hit shutout to complete the sweep.

Tech (3-7) heads to Madisonville, Tennessee next weekend to kick off their Spring Trip with a doubleheader against Hiwassee College. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
