Warriors Get Split Against Cardinals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team got a split against Concordia on Monday afternoon in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) doubleheader at Cardinal Field, falling in game one, 3-1, before getting a 1-0 victory in game two.

Brian Hakes with 1-4 with the lone RBI in game one while Glen McClain and Mark Carpenter also picked up a hit apiece. Kyle Mead and Peyton Newsom drew two walks each while Johnny Crawford took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits in four innings of work.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with Mead drawing a leadoff walk and Hakes driving him home two batters later, but that was all the offense Tech could muster against lefty Marshall Oetting, who went the distance to get the win. The Cardinals would tie the game in the bottom of the first before scoring twice in the fifth, using four walks and fielder's choice to extend the lead to 3-1 and hold on for the win.

Newsom would drive in the only run of game two in the top of the first with a single to score Robert Nagel. Hakes and Tighe Koehring would both double and McClain went 2-2. James McReynolds would go the distance on the hill for Kip McWilliams, allowing just three hits and two walks in seven innings of work while striking out four.

Tech (25-6, 9-3 WHAC) heads back on the road for a Wednesday doubleheader with Northwestern Ohio. First pitch is schedule for 2 p.m. from Racer Field.
