GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team split its final two games of the weekend with No. 21 Davenport on Sunday afternoon at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex, winning game one, 7-5, and falling in game two, 7-0.
James McReynolds won his sixth game of the season with a complete game outing in game one, allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out seven.
Peyton Newsom doubled and picked up a pair of RBI's.
Brian Hakes and
Tighe Koehring also doubled with the latter driving in one run and the former scoring twice.
Kyle Mead went 2-5 with a run and an RBI.
Tech scored three times in the third, with all the runs coming with two outs.
Zach Fyfe would draw the two-out after battling back from a 0-2 count and would come around to score after advancing to second on a passed ball and a single from Mead. A single from
Charlie Sipe would give the Warriors runners on the corners and an error from the Panthers right fielder in the next at-bat would allow both to score.
The hosts would cut the deficit to two with a run in the fourth, but the Orange and Black would get the run back in the sixth after back-to-back doubles from Hakes and Koehring. A pair of errors from Tech in the seventh would give the Panthers two runs as the visitors would hold a 4-3 lead in the last two innings.
The Warriors would use another two-out rally in the eighth to put three more runs on the board thanks to a walk from Hakes and three straight hits with Newsom delivering a bases-clearing double to make it a 7-3 ballgame.
A homer from Travis Bolin would cut the deficit to two, but McReynolds would regroup to finish the complete game victory.
Mead would add a double in the nightcap while
Mark Carpenter went 2-3 with a stolen base. Koehring would draw a pair of walks and
Johnny Crawford took the loss after allowing five runs, all earned, on seven hits in 3.1 innings of work.
The Panthers would score one run in the bottom of the first before scoring four runs in the fourth to chase Crawford. They would tack on two more runs in the next inning off
Connor McLaughlin using three straight hits to score.
