LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team was shutout on Sunday in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) doubleheader by Madonna, falling 3-0 in game one before being runned-ruled, 8-0, in five innings.
Jenevie Rivas went the distance in the circle in game one, allowing three runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out two in six innings of work.
Caitlyn Walter picked up the lone hit for the Warriors in the first at-bat of the game while
Kaitlyn Lipinski got on-base via a hit by pitch in the third.
The Crusaders scored all three runs in the bottom of the first as they used three hits and two Tech errors to provide Madonna starter Erin Combs all the offense she needed as she allowed just two base runners and one hit in seven complete innings while striking out seven in the win.
Tori Simper went 2-2 with a triple in game two while
Jamie Kilps went 2-3.
Amber Terlaje took the loss after going four innings and allowing seven runs, all unearned, on eight hits and a walk.
Simper's triple in the second put the Warriors in great position to score with no outs in the inning, but Tech was unable to convert after she was thrown out at home trying to score on a grounder from Terlaje.
The Crusaders got a run in the first and third before exploding for five in the fourth, using three hits and two errors to take a 7-0 lead before scoring the game-ending run in the fifth after four straight singles.
Tech (13-23, 2-6 WHAC) returns to action with a four-series week starting on Tuesday when they host conference-leading and 11
th-ranked Davenport for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. from Havenhurst Park.
