NEW HAVEN, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball was swept in its home opener by No. 11 Davenport, 12-1 in game one, and 9-1 in five innings in the second game, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play at Havenhurst Park.
Alexis Vargo went 1-3 with an RBI in game one while
Hannah Foltz was 2-3 with a double.
Jamie Kilps scored the Warriors lone run in the first game while
Jenevie Rivas took the loss after going four innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out two.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first in the second following a triple by Lauren French and would tack on a pair of runs in the fourth to go up 3-0. The Warriors would take advantage of a dropped fly ball in the outfield in the bottom of the inning as Vargo singled home Kilps in the next at-bat.
Tech's offense would go quiet for the rest of the game however, as Panthers starter Emily Maves limited the hosts to just one hit the rest of the game while recording eight of her 14 strikeouts after the Warriors scored, while Davenport's offense put up crooked numbers in the final three innings of the game.
The Panthers would continue their dominance in game two as Mallory Teunissen limited Tech to just one hit and one run in five innings while striking out five batters.
Amber Terlaje took the loss after giving up nine runs, all earned, on 15 hits.
Foltz gave Tech its lone hit with a towering home run to left center in the second, her third of the season, to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Panthers would come right back with three runs in the third before adding three more in the fifth to put the run-rule into effect.
Tech (13-25, 2-8 WHAC) continues its busy week on Wednesday when they welcome Concordia to Havenhurst Park for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. and links to live stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
