SYLVANIA, Ohio – The No. 7/20 (NAIA/MCLA) Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team fell to No. 5/11 Lourdes, 18-16, in the quarterfinals of Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) Tournament at Wildcat Stadium.
William McKinney had a team-high six goals, three ground balls and one assist.
Brian Nichter added four goals and six ground balls while
Jace Childs had three goals and 11 ground balls.
Lee Raymond was 23-37 in faceoff attempts and picked up nine ground balls.
Joseph Dosen made 10 saves in goal for Tech.
The Gray Wolves jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first six and a half minutes of the game, but the Warriors tie it up with 2:47 to go in the first quarter. Lourdes though, would score twice in the last 1:34 to take a 4-2 lead into the break.
The hosts would fix of the next six goals in the second period, but the Orange and Black scored two goals in the last 1:24 of the half to cut the deficit to 9-6 at the half.
Tech would score three goals in the opening 2:07 of the second half, with McKinney, Childs and Nichter all tallying goals to knot the game up at nine. The two sides would trade goals for the rest of the quarter with the visitors holding a 13-12 lead after 45 minutes thanks to a
Noah Puckett goal with 2:22 left in the period.
Five straight goals from the Gray Wolves though, would put Lourdes up 17-13 with eight minutes to go and would hang on to the win, even with Childs scoring his 45
th goal of the season with 1:11 left in the game, to pull the deficit to two, but couldn't control the faceoff.
Tech (5-9) will now wait to see if they receive a bid to the NAIA National Invitational on May 5-7 in Greenville, South Carolina.
