Tech Swept by Wolverines in Regular Season Finale

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team was swept by Michigan-Dearborn, 3-1, and 2-5, in its regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon at University Field at Madonna University.

Alexis Vargo homered while Caitlyn Walter picked up a pair of hits in game one. Amber Terlaje took the loss after going the distance in the circle, allowing three runs, one earned, on 10 hits and two walks.

The Wolverines would score first in the second after a wild pitch from Terlaje and tack on two more runs in the fourth following an error by Kaitlyn Lipinski. Vargo would lead off the fifth with her second home run of the season, but the Orange and Black could only muster one more base runner as they fell in game one.

Alli Watson doubled and drove in a run in game two while Caitlyn Walter also doubled and scored once. Jenevie Rivas took the loss after allowing three runs, all earned, on six hits and a walk and struck out two. Tori Simper pitched the remaining three innings, allowing two runs, both earned, on two hits and two walks.

Tech would take advantage of an error by Dearborn's second baseman to take a 1-0 lead in the first, but UMD would come back to score runs in the third and fourth, using two triples, a homer and a single to score all five of their runs.

Walter would lead off the seventh with a walk and come around to score on a double from Watson, but the Wolverines would get the final two outs to complete the sweep.

Tech (15-31, 4-14 WHAC) will have to wait for the results of Saturday's matchup between Aquinas and Lourdes to see if they will make the WHAC Tournament. The Warriors currently sit in eighth place, while the Saints (3-13) and Gray Wolves (2-10) right behind.
