Box Score 2 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The third-seeded Indiana Tech men's tennis team took to the courts on Friday afternoon at MVP-Crahen for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championships, taking down sixth-seeded Cornerstone, 5-0, before falling to second-seeded and 11
th seeded Aquinas, 5-1.
The Warriors swept through doubles action against the Golden Eagles, with
Mikel Oscoz and
Fernando Sousa winning 8-4 at one doubles while
Joaquin Ferrando and
Nicholas Aguirre also winning 8-4 at two doubles. The third flight of
Kino de Leon and
Rui Lima won 8-1, with the former winning 6-0, 6-2, at sixth flight while the former clinched the match at fifth singles with a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win.
The Saints took a 2-1 lead after doubles action in the WHAC semifinals, with Oscoz and Sousa winning 8-5. Aquinas would then get straight-set wins at six and two singles while Aguirre would fall in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 at fourth flight as the 11
th-ranked team in the country clinched a spot in the finals.
The loss concludes the Warriors season.
