GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The fourth-seeded Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team defeated eighth-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan, 19-15, on Friday afternoon at DU Turf Field in the consolation bracket of the National Women's Lacrosse League (NWLL) National Championship.
Sam Vikstrom led the Warriors with five goals and a game-high 10 ground balls while causing nine turnovers and winning three draw controls.
Tayler Campbell scored four times while
Alexa Winter had three goals, three ground balls, two draw controls and an assist.
Kristina Scott,
Jennifer Banks and
Aubri Hazen each scored twice while Hazen picked up six ground balls and had three assists.
Nicole Price added seven ground balls while
Meaghan Eldridge made five saves in 30 minutes to pick up the win.
After the Bulldogs tied the game at one at the 24:19 mark, Campbell scored four seconds later as the Warriors would race out to a 7-2 lead over the next 13 minutes, with Vikstrom scoring three of her five goals during the stretch.
The Orange and Black would then close the half out with four goals in the last 67 seconds to lead 13-5 at the break. Tennessee Wesleyan would cut the deficit to four goals at different times in the last 10 minutes of the game, but the Warriors would close out their NWLL Championship run with the 18-15 win.
Tech (14-3) heads to Greenville, South Carolina on Wednesday for the NAIA National Invitational. The Warriors will take on Davenport at 8 p.m. from Sirrine Stadium.
