McWilliams Gets 300th Win as Warriors Sweep Saints on Senior Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team swept Siena Heights on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Stadium, winning 5-0, and, 7-2, respectively, to extend their winning streak to five games on Senior Day and gave ninth-year head coach Kip McWilliams his 300 and 301st career wins.

Tech honored its nine seniors, Kyle Mead, Zach Fyfe, Brian Hakes, Mark Carpenter, Connor McLaughlin, Chase Keathley, James McReynolds, Steve Remesnik and Zach Sailors, in a pregame ceremony on the field.

Tighe Koehring, Glen McClain, Mark Carpenter, Alex Delk and Jagen Millspaugh each knocked in a run in game one, with Delk and Millspaugh each picking up a double while Keith Tatum went 3-3 with a two-bagger. Kyle Mead and Peyton Newsom both scored twice with the former stealing two bases. Junior Jared Harvey went 7.2 innings to get his fourth win of the season, allowing seven hits and striking out nine. Tyler Wells pitched the last 1.1 innings to complete the shutout.

After Harvey escaped a second and third jam in the top of the first, the Orange and Black would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning as Koehring hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Mead. Delk would then double home Newsome in the second to double Tech's lead.

A single from Carpenter in the fourth extend the hosts lead to 3-0 while Koehring picked up his second RBI of the game with a ground out in the fifth to plate Mead. Millspaugh's pinch hit double in the eighth would score David Barksdale and give the Warriors a 5-0 win and McWilliams 300th of his career.

Brian Hakes would go 2-3 with a double, two RBI's and score twice while hitting his eighth home run of the season in game two while Tatum doubled and homer in the night cap to drive in a pair of runs. Branson Dossen tripled in a run while going 2-3. Mead and Koehring and add two hits each and drove in a run. Jason Sterrett got his second win of the year with a strong five inning performance, allowing one earned run on nine hits and striking out three. Connor McLaughlin and Josh Wiesman would pitch an inning each in relief to close out the win.

Hakes would give Tech the lead in the first with a towering homer to left while Tatum added an RBI double in the second to give the Warriors a 2-0. Dossen would follow with a perfect bunt single to score Barksdale and put the hosts up 3-0.

Four straight hits with two outs in the fourth, started by Dossen's triple, would give the Orange and Black a 6-0 lead. The Saints would get their first run of the day in the fifth but Tech would counter right back with Tatum's second home run in the bottom of the inning to get the run back.

Siena Heights would get two runners on in the seventh but Wiesman would get the next two batters to strike out and complete the sweep.

With the sweep, Tech now sits in fifth place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and sits two and a half games ahead of Cornerstone with four games left on the Warriors schedule.
