Kelso Breaks Record, Warriors Sweep at Home Invite

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team swept their day of competition at the Warrior Invitational on Saturday, defeating Hannibal-LaGrange in the morning session, 25-18, 25-19, 25-9, and sweeping Robert Morris, 25-18, 25-14, 25-13, in the final match of the afternoon at the Schaefer Center.

Paige Doellman led the Warrior attach with double-digit kills against the Trojans with a game-high 11 with teammate Jazmin Alexander following close with nine kills of her own. Karli Jones finished the morning session dishing out a game-high 28 assists, while Taylor Kelso rounded out the Orange and Black leaders with a game-high 18 digs. Kelso, who needed 14 digs heading into the day to surpass the digs record previously held by Ashley Hamilton, went on to capture the new title midway through the second set and hitting the 2,129 digs mark.

The Warriors fought in a tight contest in the early points of the first set before going on a 12-3 run to put enough distance between them and their visitors to close out the first set with the 25-18 victory. Tech's lead grew more commanding transitioning into the second set on a 6-0 run highlighted by a flawless, early attack effort from the duo of Alexander and teammate Gabby Staggs. Hannibal-LaGrange (1-7) could not cut down on the lead falling into a double-digit deficit late in the set. That power from the Orange and Black carried into the third as they opened with an 11-0 run and managed to hold the Trojans to only nine final set points, taking the decisive set 25-9.

Against Robert Morris (1-10), Sarabia led with a game-high nine kills, while Jones continued her dominance on the day, dishing out a game leading 25 assists, with teammate Autumn Stokes following behind with 13 of her own. Kelso continued her streak into Tech's final match of the day, registering a match leading 22 digs.

The Eagles could not keep up with the pace at which the Warriors were setting early on, failing to slow down the offensive efforts that remained strong from the morning match. After opening the second set on an 8-0 run, behind two services aces from Jones, Tech held the visitors to under 15 for the double-digit second set victory. With a third set to mirror the first and second, the Orange and Black gained too much momentum for any chance of a late comeback from Robert Morris, closing out the match on the 25-13 decision.

Kelso was named to the All-Invitational Team along with Northwestern Ohio's Leah Hofmann, Hannibal-LaGrange's Khristina Schellentrager, and Robert Morris's Jana Kunz.

Tech (7-4) will be back in action on Wednesday, September 14, as they kick off their week-long conference slate with a trip north to take on Michigan-Dearborn in a 7 p.m. start at UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
