Warriors Ground Eagles, Fall to Trolls at IWU Invitational

MARION, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team got back to the court on Friday at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational, defeating Judson (Ill.) in four games, 25-27, 25-23, 25-21, 25-13, in their first match of the day before falling in a sweep to Trinity Christian (Ill.), 22-25, 24-26, 13-25 in the nightcap at Luckey Arena.
 
Paige Doellman was one of five players with double-digit kills against the Eagles with a game-high 13, while Cassie Sarabia and Gabby Staggs each recorded 12. Aubree Eggers and Jazmin Alexander added 11 kills each and Taylor Kelso dug out 29 balls. Autumn Stokes dished out a career-high 30 assists while Karli Jones added 25 assists.
 
The Eagles would come out on top in the first set by staving off two set points and then rolling off three straight points for the 27-25 win. Judson looked poised to take the second set with a 23-20 lead, but the Warriors rattled off five consecutive points, including a pair of kills from Staggs, to tie the game at one-all.
 
The Orange and Black would use a 8-0 run early in the third set to take a 10-3 lead and take control of the match with a 2-1 lead before dominating the fourth set, 25-13, to get their third victory of the season. Tech would hit .500 in the fourth while sending home 18 kills and committing just one attack error.
 
Against the Trolls, Sarabia would record a double-double of 10 kills and 10 assists Kelso led the team with 20 digs. Eggers, Staggs and Keasia Carlisle combined for 10 blocks while Jones dished out a team-high 21 assists.
 
The two sides would go back-and-forth through the first two sets, with the Warriors staving off two straight set points down 24-22, but Trinity Christian would take the next two points to take a commanding 2-0 lead before cruising to a 25-13 win in the third set to complete the sweep.
 
Tech (3-3) concludes the IWU Invitational on Saturday with games against Taylor (Ind.) and Indiana Wesleyan at 12 and 5 p.m., respectively. Both matches will have live stats while the IWU matchup will also have live video and links can be found at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
