FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team concluded its season opening series against Concordia (Mich.) on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field with a split decision, winning 16-0 in seven innings in game one before falling in game two, 11-4.
Matt Bandor was 4-4 with four RBI's, three runs, two home runs and a double in game one while
Tighe Koehring was 2-3 with a double and three RBI's.
Charlie Sipe,
Glen McClain and
Dante Biagini each added two RBI's a piece with McClain recording a triple and Sipe and Biagini knocking in doubles.
Cody Kellar pitched six strong innings in the win, allowing just three hits and striking out three in the shutout. Tech would record 22 hits in the game.
The Warriors would do damage in the fourth inning as
Keith Tatum and Koehring recorded back-to-back RBI doubles before McClain knocked in
Benny Clark III with a triple. The next inning the Orange and Black would explode for 10 runs, with Bandor hitting both of his homers, a solo shot to left field to lead off the inning before sending a three-run shot onto Anthony Blvd. to extend the lead to 15-0 as Tech batted sent 15 hitters to the batter's box in the inning.
Just as the Warriors were the hammer in the first game, the Cardinals repaid the favor in the second as they jumped out to score five runs in both the first and second inning, using nine hits in the two innings, including a towering grand slam by Jeremy Maas onto Anthony to give the visitors a 10-0 lead.
Tech would stave off the run-rule in the seventh inning as Biagini singled home McClain and
Branson Dossen was able to score from second as the Cardinals right fielder misplayed the ball, but the Orange and Black were only able to muster one more run across the plate as the Cardinals got their first win on the weekend.
Biagini finished the game with two RBI's and a walk while
Glen McClain went 2-3 with a run and a RBI. Dossen would come around to score twice while
Jacob Koehring went 6.2 innings on the mound in relief, allowing just one unearned run after the Cardinals offensive explosion in the first two innings, striking out three while allowing just five hits.
Tech (2-1, 2-1 WHAC) returns to action this weekend with a three-game set against Lourdes. The Warriors open the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, October 1, with a 1 p.m. game one start time at Mercy Field.
