FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team opened up Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play in commanding fashion Wednesday night, sweeping Lawrence Tech in straight sets, 25-19, 25-18, 25-13 in what was also their regular season home opener at the Schaefer Center.
Cassie Sarabia finished the night in double-digits in both kills, with a game-high 13, and added 12 digs, where she finished behind teammates
Taylor Kelso, who finished her night with a game-high 18 and
Haley Paonessa, who recorded 16 of her own.
Autumn Stokes concluded play by dishing out 19 assists, just ahead of teammate
Karli Jones, who registered 18.
The Blue Devils hung within a minimal point deficit of the Warriors through much of the first set, until a four-point run by the Orange and Black put them within easy reach of taking the 1-0 set advantage. Much of the early second set mirrored the previous set, but it was Tech who would establish the tempo, leading them to a 25-18 decision and strong momentum heading into the third. The Warriors would utilize that momentum to take an 18-12 lead from their visitors before maximizing on the final four points of the match and wrapping up the 25-13 victory with an ace from
Brandi Huesman.
The Orange and Black (5-4, 1-0 WHAC) will be back in action this weekend in part with the Warrior Invitational. Tech takes the court for its first match on Saturday against Hannibal-LaGrange College (Mo.) at 10 a.m. at the Schaefer Center.
