GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 20-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team fell to No. 6-ranked and conference-leader Davenport, 75-69, on Wednesday evening at the DU Student Center in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play.
Keanna Gary recorded her 12
th double-double of the season as they led the Warriors with 25 points and 14 rebounds and converting 11 of her 15 shots from the field.
Taylor Seiss added 12 points while
Baylee Rinehart chipped in 14 points and four rebounds off the bench.
Haley Cook and
Kendall Knapke added seven rebounds each, with the latter picking up six steals and dishing out four assists while the former scored eight points.
Tech jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Panthers, causing the hosts to use a timeout 90 seconds into the game between the top two teams in the WHAC. The Warriors would extend their lead to as many as 10, holding a 14-4 lead at the 6:21 mark in the first quarter. Davenport would find its offensive rhythm in the second half of the quarter though, using a 16-5 run to take a 20-19 lead at the end of the period.
The two teams would continue their battle in the second quarter, with Tech taking a 36-30 lead with 2:08 to go in the period and holding on to a 42-40 advantage at the break.
Davenport would grab the lead three and a half minutes into the third period, and lead by as much as seven with four minutes left in the quarter. The visitors would rally back with a 9-2 spurt however, tying the game up at 58 with 1:11 to go in the third, only to see the Panthers' Emily Severn drain a three-pointer with seven seconds to go and take a 61-58 lead into the final quarter.
DU would open the quarter on an 11-2 run to grown their lead to 12 with 4:24 on the clock and while the Warriors would cut the deficit to four with 16 seconds left in the game, the Panthers would sink a pair of free throws to ice the game and stay undefeated in conference play.
Tech (13-5, 8-3) returns to action on Saturday as they host Siena Heights in a 1 p.m. tip from the Schaefer Center.
