Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors Late Rally Comes Up Short at Shawnee State

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team began the New Year on the road as they closed out their nonconference schedule on Monday, falling to NAIA Division I Shawnee State, 82-78, at Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium and snapping their five-game winning streak.

Miles Robinson scored a game-high 27 points, eclipsing the 1,000 point plateau in just his 49th game with the program, and becoming the 35th player in program history to reach the four-digit mark, while recording four steals. Lavonte Davis grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds while adding five points. Scott Schwieterman and Franklin Lindsey each scored 10 points, with the latter playing in his first game since February 21, 2015 and grabbing four rebounds and blocking two shots.

Tech would get out to a 9-6 lead in the first three minutes of the game, their first action since December 19, before the Bears used a 9-0 run to go up 15-9 with 15:28 to go in the first half. The Warriors responded right back with a 17-6 spurt over the next 10 minutes to grab a 26-21 lead with 10:34 on the clock.

Shawnee State would close out first half on a 10-0 run to take a 45-31 lead into the locker room while the Orange and Black would go just 1-of-13 from the field over the last 10 minutes of the half.

The visitors would shake off their shooting slump quickly to begin the second half as Jantzen Goodwin and Robinson would hit back-to-back three pointers to cut the deficit to eight just under two minutes out of the intermission. SSU would extend their lead back up to 14 with 15:55 to go as the Warriors would struggle to shoot from the field.

Tech wouldn't go down quietly though as they used a 15-6 run with nine minutes to play to cut the Bears' lead to 67-64 with 5:14 left in the game. The hosts would recover though, to extend their lead back up to 10 with 1:34 to go and hold on for the 82-78 victory.

Tech (11-5) returns home on Wednesday as they welcome Lawrence Tech to the Summit City and resume Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
