Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Tech Takes Down Number 8 Wolverines on Senior Night

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 25-ranked Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team snapped a six-game losing streak as they defeated No. 8-ranked University of Michigan-Dearborn, 4-3, on Friday evening on Senior Day at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) action.

"Today we played as well as we have all season long," head coach Frank DiCristofaro said. "We capitalized on our opportunities, and Slavs (John Slavik) played exceptional in net, giving us a chance to win. The seniors also were leaders all game, this is a great way to finish their last game a home."

The two sides would spend the majority of the first period getting a feel for the pace, but Ryan Theisen would put the Warriors on the board with 16 seconds remaining in the first period to give Tech a 1-0 lead as they headed into the first intermission.

The second period saw a flurry of action as the Wolverines would score a pair of goals, tying the game up at 1-1 and 2-2, but the Orange and Black would respond each time with scores from Nick Denice and Jarrett Pfeiffer at 12:44 and 3:26, respectively.

Pfeiffer would tack on his second goal of the night just four minutes and 44 seconds into the third to give the hosts a 4-2 lead with 15:16 left to go in their final home game of the season.

UM-Dearborn would cut the deficit to one as Jeff McFarland would notch his second goal of the night with 3:43 left in the game, but the visitors would not be able to get another past starting netminder John Slavik, even with an extra attacker for the final 63 seconds.

Slavik would finish the night with 34 saves while Adam Jonak, Kyle Cobb, Ryan Theisen and Brett Lervold all tallied assists.

Tech (14-14-1, 8-7-0 GLCHL) travels to Dearborn on Saturday for the series finale. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. from the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
