Gary’s Double-Double, Strong Defense Power Warriors Past Blue Devils

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 17-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak on Wednesday evening with a 65-58 victory over Lawrence Tech at the Schaefer Center.

Keanna Gary recorded her 10th double-double of the season with a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds, going 9-12 from the field. Taylor Seiss added 13 points on 5-10 shooting while Haley Cook chipped in 10 points and a game-high five assists. Baylee Rinehart added nine points off the bench while Kendall Knapke had six points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Blue Devils, who are receiving 29 points in the NAIA Coaches' Division II Poll, got out to a 10-2 start in the first quarter, limiting the Warriors to just 1-5 shooting in the first five and a half minutes while committing three turnovers in that span.

Trailing 18-10 after one quarter of action, the Orange and Black would turn the defensive intensity in the second quarter, limiting Lawrence Tech to just five points on 2-19 shooting while the visitors went 0-5 from behind the three-point line. Tech would turn it up on the offensive end as well, going 6-10 form the field and ending the half on a 14-2 run to take a 27-23 lead into the locker room.

The hosts would continue their hot shooting into the third quarter, going 4-7 from downtown while shooting 53.8% from the floor and extending their lead to as many as 10 with 1:36 left in the third with a 12-2 spurt.

The Warriors would hold off the Blue Devils through the final period, with the visitors cutting the lead to six with eight seconds to go, but it would not be enough as the Orange and Black snapped a three-game losing streak to LTU and took control of second place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).

Tech (12-4, 7-2 WHAC) returns to action Saturday when they host Northwestern Ohio. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
