FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team returns to the mats Thursday when they head over to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum for National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Divisional National Duals presented by the United States Marine Corps and Theraworx.
The Warriors, who have improved every year at the annual event, finished second last year to five-time duals champion, and five-time reigning NAIA National Champion Grand View, ranked first in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 20 Poll. Tech brings nine ranked grapplers into the weekend, with reigning 125-pounds National Champion
Mitch Pawlak, ranked second in the 133-lbs. division, and third-ranked
John Weldon at 165-lbs., leading the way.
The Orange and Black also feature seventh-ranked
Justin Atkinson (174-lbs.), a trio of eight-seeds in
Sawyer Miller (125),
Antonio Rodriguez (174) and
Dillon Francisco (184) while
Matthew Miller holds the number nine spot at 141-lbs.
Oscar Martinez and
Erique Early are ranked 10
th and 12
th, respectively, at 197 and 133-lbs.
Tech is 8-3 in duals on the season, with two of their losses coming at the hands of NCAA Division I foes Buffalo and Indiana. The Warriors open the duals at 11 a.m. against Lindenwood Belleville, and will face off against either T-No. 11-ranked Wayland Baptist or T-No. 11-ranked Concordia (Neb.) in their next bout. Should Tech win both their matches Thursday, they will wrestle in the semifinals at 11 a.m. on Friday, while the championship bout is scheduled for 2 p.m.
