FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team swept Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) rival Rochester College (25-16, 25-16, 25-12) Friday night at the Schaefer Center.
Tech would place one with double-digit kills as
Calista Helinski led the match with 12 on the night.
Karli Jones would record 23 assists, while
Madeline MacDonald's 16 digs would round out the top performers for the Warriors.
The Orange and Black were able to utilize strong offensive play for a 6-1 run that would put them ahead 9-4. The lead would continue to grow for Tech as they jumped ahead by double digits on a kill from
Allison Cole to make it 18-8. Rochester would manage to add a 5-0 run on to their score late, but it was the Warriors who would strike first, ultimately taking the set 25-16.
Helinski would log four kills to kick off the second set, putting Tech out to a 7-1 early advantage. Both teams would exchange a back and forth battle of points, but the Warriors would still find themselves up 14-6 after a 3-0 run.
Courtney Mack and
Jordan Aylward would help Tech close out set two with back-to-back kills, allowing for the 2-0 lead.
Set three started off in favor of the visiting Warriors, as they jumped ahead 5-2, but a 9-1 run from the Orange and Black would give them back the lead at the midway point. That lead for Tech would grow to as much as twelve, as they still held their opponents to single digits, leading 21-9. A kill from Helinski would end the night for Tech with a 25-12 set decision and a 3-0 match victory.
The Orange and Black (13-18, 4-7 WHAC) will return to action on Saturday, October 28 as they host #16 Madonna for Senior Day, with first serve set for 1 p.m. at the Schaefer Center.
