ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Siena Heights, 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16), on Friday evening at the Siena Heights Fieldhouse.
The Warriors would have two players finish the night with double-digit kills in
Olivia Niekamp, who finished tied with a match-leading 14 kills and
Jordan Aylward, who checked in with 10.
Autumn Stokes would record 25 assists for the contest with
Karli Jones registering 23 of her own.
Madeline MacDonald rounded things out for Tech with a match-high 30 digs.
After the Saints jumped ahead to a commanding 16-5 lead in the opening set, the Orange and Black were able to take advantage of their opponents' errors and strong offensive play from Niekamp and Aylward to come within three before dropping the 25-21 decision. Siena Heights was able to duplicate their quick start in set two, converting a 16-9 midway advantage to a 25-17 second set score with a kill from Christine Tylutki to provide the 2-0 match lead for the home team.
The Warriors were able to take a 9-8 lead early in the third set with a kill from Niekamp to push Tech ahead. The third set would remain a back and forth battle between the two teams changing leads until a 20-20 lock was met. Three kills from
Calista Helinski proved to be the momentum the Warriors needed to take the 25-21 final score and force a fourth set.
A 6-0 early lead from Tech would be answered with five straight Saints points, but the Warriors would continue to push their opponents as they locked things at twelve apiece. A pair of five-point Siena Height runs would prove to be the dagger with a 25-16 fourth set finish to end the night for the Warriors.
Tech (8-16, 2-6 WHAC)) returns to action on Saturday as they play host to Concordia in a WHAC contest with first serve set for 3 p.m. at the Schaefer Center
