FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team topped Concordia in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) contest, 3-2, (22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13), on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center.
Tech would finish the contest with three players in double-digits for kills with
Calista Helinski (19),
Mara Zell (15), and
Aubree Eggers (10).
Karli Jones would record a match-high 33 assists with
Autumn Stokes following behind with 24 of her own.
Madeline MacDonald and Zell would round things out for the Warriors with 17 digs each.
The Cardinals were able to jump out to a quick lead in the first set before a string of three points from the Warriors would bring them back to within two of their opponents. Concordia managed to hold their lead the entire duration of the opening set despite a late 7-1 run from Tech that would again put them within two. Set two provided a more back and forth battle between the two teams, as they remained locked at nine early. An offensive surge from Zell helped the Warrior's momentum, boosting them to a 21-13 advantage before they ultimately took the second set 25-17.
The third set followed suite of the prior with a close contest that held both teams at a late 15-15 tie. A 3-0 run from Concordia was followed by a 4-0 Warrior run that turned into a 22-22 tie before the Cardinals closed things out 25-23. The Orange and Black were able to capitalize on their opponent's errors in a tightly contested fourth set to force the decisive fifth set with a 6-0 run to put them up 24-18 and give them the 25-21 decision.
The final set looked to duplicate the close nature of the previous sets before the Warriors would compiled a 6-0 run to go ahead 8-3. Concordia attempted to make a late run down 9-13, but were stopped by back to back kills from Helinski to close the match with a 15-13 final set dagger.
The Orange and Black (9-16) will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Lawrence Tech for a WHAC contest with first serve set for 7 p.m. at Don Ridler Field House.
