MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team fell to No. 6-ranked University of the Cumberlands, 31-13, in their dual opener on Friday evening at Penn High School.
The Patriots would take the first two matches out of the gate at, with
Sawyer Miller falling in a 5-3 decision at 125-lbs. while
Erique Early was pinned at 3:52 by No. 1-ranked Jake Sinkovics.
Gaige Torres would put the Warriors on the board with a 14-11 decision victory at 141-lbs. while recording five takedowns in the match. Another Patriot win at 149-lbs. would give them a 15-3 lead after four matches, but Tech would take the next three bouts to cut the deficit to 15-13, with
Chase Hack recording a 14-3 major decision at 157-lbs. while
Mitch Roadruck and
Scottie Sopko won via decision at 165 and 174-lbs., respectively. Roadruck would come out on top with a 2-1 decision in overtime while Sopko earned a 7-4 win.
Cumberlands would close out the match strong however, with two tech falls and a fall to come out with the 31-13 victory in the top-10 matchup.
Tech returns to action on Saturday, December 2, as they travel to North Manchester, Indiana for the Indiana Little State Invitational, hosted by Manchester University. Meet time is set for 9 a.m. form Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
