Warriors Tame Wolverines For Seventh Straight Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 21-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team topped Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opponent University of Michigan-Dearborn, 79-45, in a weekday conference matchup on Tuesday evening at the Schaefer Center.

Keanna Gary had a dominant night, leading the Warriors with her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while adding five assists. Haley Cook would add 18 points and nine rebounds on the night, while DeAnn Kauffman finished with 13 points off the bench.

Cook would hit the first basket of the game that would provide the early lead for Tech, a lead they would hold through the entire first quarter and the whole game. With six minutes gone in the game the Warriors would hold a 12-4 lead after a Rachel Bell basket while eventually growing their lead to double-digits and ending the first quarter up 21-11 on the Wolverines.

Tech would continue to grow their lead into the second quarter after a jumper from Gary would put Tech up 26-11 after a little over two minutes of play. Strong defense from the Orange and Black would limit Michigan-Dearborn to just four points with just under four minutes to go before the half with Tech leading 35-17. Bell would close out the first half scoring for the Orange and Black with a jumper granted them a 42-17 advantage at the break.

A 20-plus point advantage would grow into a 49-19 point lead for the Warriors at the six minute mark of the third quarter. The Wolverines would hit the 20-point mark just before the midway point of the quarter, but Tech's offense continued to turn the offense on, taking a 59-28 late in the quarter. A pair of free throws from Bell would provide for a 64-28 score heading into the final ten minutes of play.

Tech would duplicate their dominant performance through the fourth quarter, growing their lead to 35 early on in the period. A jumper from Cook with just under seven minutes to play would put the Warriors ahead 73-33, their largest lead of the game as they would go on to cruise to a 79-45 victory.

The Orange and Black (8-1, 3-0 WHAC) will return to action on Saturday as they host crosstown rival and No. 22-ranked University of Saint Francis in a 3 p.m. nonconference matchup from the Schaefer Center.
