FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team opens up postseason play on Saturday as they travel to Aquinas for a first round matchup in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament.
The Warriors finished the regular season with a 14-20 mark overall and took eight in the WHAC (fourth in the East Division) with a 5-9 record. Tech has made the conference tournament for 13 years in a row, starting the streak in the 2006 season, their second year as a program once it was restarted.
The Orange and Black feature a balanced attack with
Aubree Eggers and
Olivia Niekamp leading the way with 261 and 253 kills, respectively, with Eggers hitting a team-best .290. Four other Warriors,
Courtney Mack (198),
Jordan Aylward (194),
Mara Zell (183) and
Allison Cole (178) also give head coach
Kourtney Wilson plenty of options at the net.
Defensively the back row is patrolled by
Madeline MacDonald who has recorded 614 digs this season after replacing former standout Taylor Kelso in the libero spot. Cole and Eggers are both forces at the net defensively with 59 and 57 blocks each.
The Warriors 6-2 set features a pair of steady passers in
Karli Jones and
Autumn Stokes, who have dished out 597 and 588 assists, respectively. Zell leads the team in service aces with 32, while
Madysn Cardinal, MacDonald and Stokes all have recorded 20 or more aces this year.
Aquinas is the five seed in this year's tournament after finishing fourth in the West Division with a 9-6 mark. The Saints took a marathon match from the Warriors in their lone regular season matchup, winning 3-2 (25-10, 25-19, 17-25, 24-26, 15-13) back on Sept. 15 in Grand Rapids.
First serve is set for 1 p.m. from the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center on the campus of Aquinas.
