Tech Grounds Cardinals for Fourth Straight Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 6-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team defeated Concordia, 84-77, on Saturday afternoon in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action at the Schaefer Center for their fourth consecutive win.

Edmond Early, Jr. scored a team-high 17 points, tying his career-best, while knocking down five three-pointers and adding three steals off the bench to lead the Warriors. Max Huber had 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals off the bench while Darren Groves chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds. Nic Williams, Dylan Phair and Scott Schwieterman also reached double digit scoring figures with 11, 10 and 10, respectively, while Joel Wincowski had eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The Warriors would start off the game on fire with a 10-0 run in the first three and a half minutes of the game and knocking down three-pointers on the first three possessions. Tech would increase their lead to 12 with 10:28 left in the first half and held a 13-point lead with 6:21 on the clock.

The Cardinals would make small runs to cut the lead down to seven multiple times and eventually trimmed the deficit to five right before the half, but the visitors were unable to get it to a single-possession game in the first 20 minutes as the Orange and Black took a 46-38 lead into the locker room at the half.

The hosts would open up the second half with a 10-4 run over the first five minutes to extend their advantage to 14 points and eventually made it a 17-point game at 68-51 with 9:43 to go in the game. Concordia would not pack it in though, using a 15-4 spurt over the next two minutes to cut the Warrior lead to 72-66.

The hosts would grow their lead back up to 10 with five minutes to go, but the Cardinals would rally back to make it a five-point game three different times over the last four minutes of the contest, with the last coming with 43 seconds on the clock, but that would be as close as they would get as Tech held on to the 84-77 win.

Tech (12-2, 6-1 WHAC) steps out of conference action on Tuesday as they host East-West University. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
