FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team returned to action on Saturday as they hosted the Warriors Duals and went 3-1 on the day, defeating Davenport, 35-13, Hannibal-LaGrange, 43-6 and No. 11-ranked Campbellsville, 31-12, and falling to Marian, 26-19, at the Warrior Athletic Center.
The Orange and Black would start off the day against former regional rival Davenport, and didn't waste any time as they won their first four bouts via pin and won the first six matches in a row to take a 32-0 lead.
Sawyer Miller,
Cameron Fender,
Gaige Torres and
Thomas Garty would all record their falls in the first period.
The Warriors would again get off to a hot start against Marian, taking the first four matches to go ahead 19-0 lead, but the Knights would close out the match on a six-bout winning streak and upset Tech, 26-19. Miller and
Justin Atkinson would each record pins while
Josh Venia and
Erique Early had a major decision (12-2) and decision wins (12-8).
The hosts would get back on track against Hannibal-LaGrange, taking advantage of a short Trojan lineup, getting their first four wins via forfeit, while taking eight of the 10 bouts to move to 2-1 on the day with a 43-6 win.
Jonathan Watkins would record a pin at 2:39 while
Mitch Roadruck and
Zack Davis would pick up tech falls, 23-4, and 19-1, respectively.
In their final dual of the day against Campbellsville, another quick start would propel Tech to the 31-12 victory, with the Warriors taking five of the first six wins.
Dylan Cain and Roadruck would finish out their days with pins while
Tyler Moser picked up a 14-4 major decision.
Tech returns to action on Sunday, December 17, as they head to Oklahoma City for the Oklahoma City Duals. Opponents have not been determined yet.
