Tech Shuts Down Racers for Eighth Straight Victory

LIMA, Ohio – The No. 18-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball won its eighth straight game on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) rival University of Northwestern Ohio, 65-40, at Racer Gymnasium.
 
Haley Cook scored a game-high 25 points and joined the 1,000 point club at Tech while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Keanna Gary added 21 points and six rebounds while Taylor Seiss chipped in nine points. Kendall Knapke was all over the box score with eight points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
 
The Racers would get out to a 14-7 lead at the 5:35 mark in the first quarter, but the Warriors would respond with a 7-0 run over the next minute and a half to tie the game up at 14. UNOH would then close the period out on a 5-1 run to take a 19-15 lead into the first intermission.
 
Tech would jump out in the second quarter with a 10-2 run to take a 25-21 lead with just over four minutes gone in the period before using a 6-0 spurt to extend their lead to 30-24 with 2:38 to go in the half. The Warriors would limit the Racers to just eight points in the second as they took a 32-27 lead into the locker room at the half.
 
The Orange and Black would keep up the defensive intensity in the third quarter as they would again limit Northwestern Ohio to just eight points while using a 10-0 run to grow their lead to 19 points with 2:15 remaining in the third. Coach Jessie Biggs' squad would score 22 points in the quarter while they would hold UNOH to just five points in the final quarter while using an 11-0 to begin the fourth and come away with the season sweep.
 
Tech (21-6, 16-4 WHAC) returns to action on Sunday as they conclude their nonconference slate with a visit from future WHAC member Rochester. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
