Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors Knock Off No. 6 Panthers on Cook’s Last-Second Three

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 18-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team took down No 6-ranked and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular season champion Davenport, 85-82, on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center on Senior Day.

The Panthers came into the contest riding a 13-game winning streak and carrying a perfect 21-0 mark in conference play and looking to finish off their final season in the WHAC with an unblemished mark.

The Warriors would hold the lead for most of the game, but the 11-time defending WHAC champions would not let their undefeated mark in conference play go down without a fight, coming back to tie the game at multiple points in the fourth quarter and going up 76-72 with 2:06 left in the game.

Senior Taylor Seiss would cut the deficit in half with a runner in the lane on Tech's next possession, and a steal from Bella Lozano-Dobbs would lead to a three-pointer from Kendall Knapke to give the hosts a 77-76 lead with a minutes to go. The Panthers would tie the game back up with a free throw, but the Warriors would go 4-4 from the charity stripe on their next two possessions to take an 81-77 lead with 20 seconds on the clock, and looking like they would send Davenport home with their first conference loss.

The visitors would make things interesting however, as Emily Severn would knock down a triple and then convert both of her attempts from the free throw line with 10 seconds left in the game to tie it up at 82.

That would set the stage for Haley Cook, who took the inbounds pass up the court and pulled up from 22 feet and swished the game-winning shot with 5.5 seconds on the clock and tying the WHAC record for most made three-pointers in the season with her 106th of the season. The Panthers would get the ball into the front court, but would not get a shot off as the Orange and Black knocked off their first ranked opponent since February 12, 2014, when they defeated No. 23-ranked Cornerstone, 79-68, at the Schaefer Center. It is just Tech's second win all-time against Davenport, with the first one coming back in their second meeting on Feb. 2, 2005, an 85-75 win and also in Fort Wayne.

Keanna Gary notched her school-record 21st double-double of the season with career-high 29 points and 13 rebounds, while picking up four steals. Seiss, Cook and Knapke would finish with 16 points apiece, with Cook dishing out six assists and grabbing six rebounds.

Tech (24-6, 18-4 WHAC) will be the number two seed in next week's WHAC Tournament and will host seventh-seeded Concordia, on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Schaefer Center.
