Warriors Drops Doubleheader to Phoenix

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Indiana Tech softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday afternoon to Cumberland University, falling 6-5 in nine innings and 5-4, at CU Softball Field.

Hannah Foltz would power the Warriors offense in game one, going 4-4 with three RBI's and a home run, with her homer tying the game at 1-1 in the second while she doubled home Keauna Schultz in the fourth as Tech would later tie the game at 3-3 in the inning.

With the contest all knotted up at 3-3 after seven innings, the Warriors would plate a pair of runs in the top of the eighth as Selena Schulteis knocked in Brianna Glass while Foltz would drive in Schulteis two batters later to give Tech a 5-3 lead. The lead would be short-lived however, as the Phoenix would smash a homer in their first at-bat in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 5-5 while the hosts would take game one with a sacrifice fly to right in the ninth.

Tori Simper would take the loss after throwing eight innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on nine hits.

The Orange and Black would put up a three-spot on the scoreboard in the third inning of the night cap as Keauna Schultz drove one over the right-center field wall to make it 2-0 while Caitlyn Walter knocked in Hannah Foltz with a single to right four batters later.

The Phoenix would take advantage of three Tech errors in the fourth to score a pair of runs in the fourth and score in the fifth, sixth and seventh, pushing across the game-winning run with a single up the middle with one out in the seventh to come away with the series win, 3-0-1.

Jamie Conrad would be the hard-luck loser in game two, throwing 6.2 innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits while Schultz finished the game with three RBI's.

Tech (0-9-1) will now take a two-week hiatus from game action and will return to the field on March 11 against No. 18-ranked University of Houston – Victoria to start their Spring Break Texas trip.
