SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Indiana Tech softball team dropped its opening pair of games in its Spring Break trip to the Lone Star State, falling to Trinity, 14-5, and 9-1, with both losses coming in five innings.
Tech took a 3-0 lead in the third inning as
Alexis Vargo drove in
Kelsey Robinson and
Brianna Glass with a single up the middle while
Hannah Foltz drove in Vargo two batters later with a two-out double. The lead would be short-lived though, as the Tigers chased Vargo in the bottom of the inning and scored six runs on four hits, two walks, one hit batsman and an error to double up the Warriors.
The Orange and Black would get two runs back in the fourth as
Madison Ohnesorge drove in
Alyssa Ringswald while Robinson would plate
Selena Schulteis two batters later to make it a 6-5 game. The hosts would come roaring back in the fifth though as they scored eight runs on four hits while taking advantage of three walks and two errors to enforce the run-rule for the victory.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in game two following a suicide squeeze bunt, Trinity would pounce on the visitors for seven runs on four hits, two walks and an error to retake the lead and never look back as they scored again in the second and then in the fifth to complete the sweep.
Tech (0-11-1) continues its road trip Tuesday evening as they make the trek north to Austin to play Huston-Tillotson in a doubleheader, originally scheduled for Saturday but pushed back to Sunday and now Tuesday following rainouts. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. EDT.
