Warriors Hold Off Blue Devils for Tough Road Win

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 22-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team used a strong second half and gutty performance to hold off upset-minded Lawrence Tech, 80-72, on Wednesday evening at Don Ridler Field House as the team won its 20th game of the season.
 
CJ Bussey led all scorers with 22 points while Miles Robinson had 20 points, seven rebounds and a team-high five assists. Scott Schwieterman chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds. Tanner Watkins, Jantzen Goodwin and Max Huber all added eight points apiece while Franklin Lindsey grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
 
The Blue Devils a 7-0 run to get out to a 9-5 lead five minutes into the game and added another five quick points to hold a 14-7 lead with 12:56 left in the first half. The Warriors would use a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 21-20 with eight minutes to go in the half while Robinson scored back-to-back baskets to give Tech a 25-23 lead.
 
The hosts would retake the lead though and use a 6-0 spurt to go up 36-28 with 2:15 to go until the half, but Coach John Peckinpaugh's team would close the half with a 7-0 run in the last 90 seconds, including a three-pointer from Robinson at the buzzer, to cut the gap to 36-35.
 
LTU would open the second half on an 8-2 run to take a 44-39 lead at the 16:04 mark and held a five-point lead with 10:49 left in the game. Bussey would then go on an 8-0 run by himself over the next minute to give the Warriors a 57-54 lead.
 
The two teams would trade leads over the next over the next four minutes but back-to-back baskets from Watkins and Bussey would give the Orange and Black the lead with 3:17 to go. The hosts would tie the game up at 72 with 2:22 to go off a pair of free throws and closed the game on a 8-0 run, including 5-6 from the free throw line while holding the Blue Devils scoreless in the last 2:22 to win the game.
 
Tech (20-7, 15-4 WHAC) continues its three-game road trip on Saturday as they travel to Northwestern Ohio for a crucial conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. from Racer Gymnasium.
