EMERSON, Ga. – The Indiana Tech baseball team concluded its Spring Break Trip to the Peach State with a split, falling to Campbellsville, a team they were supposed to play Wednesday in Kentucky, 3-1, before coming back to defeat Saint Ambrose, a team who they weren't supposed to play at all, by the same score at Lakepoint Sporting Community on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors took the early lead over the Tigers in the second as
Peyton Newsom knocked in
Tighe Koehring with a one-out RBI double. Campbellsville would slowly chip away at the lead though, scoring runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-1 lead while tacking on an insurance run in the sixth to make it 3-1. The lead was plenty for Tigers starter Jared Welander, who scattered three hits over five innings while Nick Przybylek finished out the game for the two-inning save.
Jason Sterrett allowed five hits in four innings of work for the no-decision, allowing just one run.
Tech would get on the scoring board right away in the nightcap, as
Keith Tatum and
Charlie Sipe scored on an error on the Bees' centerfielder to put the Orange and Black went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first.
Charlie Sipe would then knock in
David Barksdale from second with a single to left.
Alex Delk would cruise through the Saint Ambrose lineup, allowing just two hits over five innings to pick up his first win of the season while
Nick Noe finished out the game for his first save.
Tech (16-6) continues their road trip this weekend as they reopen Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play against Cornerstone. The series opener is slated for 3 p.m. Friday from DeWitt Field.
