AUSTIN, Texas – The Indiana Tech softball team split a doubleheader with Huston-Tillotson on Tuesday night at Krieg Softball Complex, winning the first game in eight innings, 5-4, before falling in the nightcap, 6-4, giving first-year head coach
Stephanie Zimny her first win at the helm of the Warriors.
The Rams got out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning, but a three-run homer from
Hannah Foltz would give the Warriors a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning while
Tori Simper produced the game-winning hit in the top of the eight as she knocked in
Mackenzie Rieck to give Tech its first win of the season. Simper would also earn the victory in the circle as she went 5.1 innings in relief, allowing just one run on five hits.
Game two would see the Orange and Black go up 1-0 in the top of the first as Rieck drove in
Lindsey Delana with an RBI single, but the hosts would come right back with five runs in the bottom of the inning, using five hits to chase
Maggie McCrory while also taking advantage of a Tech error.
An RBI single from
Madison Ohnesorge would make it a 5-2 game in the second, but the Rams would get the run right back in the bottom half of the frame. Tech would cut the deficit to 6-4 in the sixth, but wouldn't get any closer as Huston-Tillotson savaged the split.
Tech (1-12-1) continues their Lone Star State Trip on Wednesday as they take on Our Lady of the Lake University in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. EDT.
